Webster

Webster and Jeff

I work in Web Services at Rice University.  Sometimes we have tasks we do which are really simple, but time consuming… or maybe something that’s really important, but very mundane.  We’ve said that we wish we had a monkey we could train to do some of that stuff.

So, about a year ago, “Webster” showed up.  Monthly, he goes from employee to employee to help them out with something.  Webster discusses with his current boss which new employee needs him the most next month, or who did the best job at an odd thing, and then is assigned to that employee at our monthly Web Services meeting.

This month?  I got Webster.

I’d like to think it was partly for all the great work I’ve been doing, but it’s really because of all the help I’m going to need in the months to come.

You’ll also notice that Webster has baby clothes on.  It has become a sort

of tradition that Webster’s boss for the month dresses him up.  He started out a very studious worker, but has been other things like a Jedi, and even in a pink dress made by one of the employees.  He came to me this way (thanks Julia) and I’ve already been able to practice several things with him: holding, riding in a cart at Bed Bath & Beyond, and typing class.

Webster is meant to bring joy to an individual for a short period of time and be an encouragement from other staff members.  I can say now, for the week I’ve had him, he has been just that.  Thanks Web Services!
