Year of the Rabbit
Posted by Stephanie
Many of you know that according to Chinese tradition and culture, this is the Year of the Rabbit. Jeff, born in 1975, is a rabbit and has woven that into his life. Since our new baby boy is being born during the year of the rabbit, Jeff is especially excited! Although we are affectionately referring to our little one as ‘panda,’ we are buying all things rabbit.
With that said, I would like to bring your attention to Stephanie’s version of what is an acceptable stuffed animal rabbit, as opposed to Jeff’s. The other day, Jeff came home with a stuff animal that resembled a rabbit. I literally asked him, “who in the world gave us that?” I was shocked to hear his response, “I bought this.” I thought he was joking.
He went on to say that he went into a toy store and this rabbit was staring at him and because it was SO ugly he felt sorry for it (thinking no one would buy it!). I quickly said, “there is a reason why no one would buy that rabbit.” He said it needed loved, and brought it home. I think it will literally scare our child; however, I have a back-up plan. If our baby doesn’t take to the “ugly bunny”
(which literally is what it’s called on the tag that came with it), the ugly bunny will become Sammy’s (our silky terrier’s) new toy! Ha, Ha!
I have since purchased an appropriate rabbit for our child. I’m sure this is not the first purchase that we will disagree on; however, I thought it was definitely worth sharing with you all.
An explanation of the year of the rabbit:
People born in the year of the Rabbit are kind, speak gently, peaceful, quiet and loving persons. They like to live easy lives. They are reserved persons, love arts and have a strong sense of justice. Whatever they do, they will start well and end well. This feature can make them learned scholars. Since they are refined and cultivated and self indulgent at the same time, they enjoy their lives, and think their own desires as the most important. They stubbornly believe that-it is easy for people to get along with each other. They are always polite and civil even to their enemies. They are disgusted by quarreling and any hostile act. A rabbit’s home is always a beautiful one cause Rabbit people are famous for their artistic sense and good taste. They are also usually well-dressed. Go check out your Rabbit friend’s closet, I bet you will find many expensive and beautiful clothes there. Intuitive and with a canny understanding, they seem to possess an ability to see things before they happen, a talent which secures them the best deals both in business and in life, whilst also ensuring them financial stability and security. With perfect understanding of their partners, they frequently have the advantage, and in the practice of human relations, they are unrivaled in what requires speaking and subtle negotiations. They will undertake nothing before they have weighed the pros and cons and examined the deal from every angle. Because of this, people admire the Rabbit and take him into their confidence.
