So this past week I went maternity shopping. Well, this isn’t the first time. I had my first attempt a month ago with my friend Stephanie Baudin. At that time I wasn’t quite mentally ready to try on the infamous seven month fake baby belly, and I could only handle about 1 hour and then I was ready to go. For those of you who have never had the experience before, it’s a wad of stuffing sown up in a cushion you tie around your middle at the department store. That way, you know what clothes will look like. A month ago, I wasn’t really into it, though Stephanie helped me pick up a few things. As I am progressing in my pregnancy, I realized that I am getting to a point where my normal clothes are no longer fitting correctly, so I NEED to make the transition.

I headed to one of my favorite department stores that sponsors a little known parade on Thanksgiving and will remain nameless. Let me first say the maternity department is shoved in the corner on the top floor, and is extremely small in comparison to other departments. Thank goodness I had my mother-in-law Shirley (see alifeencouraged.com) with me who helped me comb the aisles for anything and everything that looked good. I tried on sooooo many clothes.
Then, I realized that I needed to face it! I needed to try on the fake belly in order to see how the clothes I was trying would actually look. Well, let’s just say that the fake belly I tried on here was much different than the first one I tried on a month ago. The first maternity store I went to was named after a vegetable some princess slept on and it’s covering. That store had a nice plush belly that was a smooth, even, round, neat shaped bump. However, the store that Shirley and I were at was a bit, hmmmm, lopsided. Quite comical actually. I could literally shape the stomach into any shape I wanted. Shirley and I had a good time laughing at myself making shapes with my new stomach.
The day was a success. I left the store with tons of casual clothes and the salespeople were great. We were literally exhausted from the day of shopping, so naturally had to finish our day with afternoon tea at the St. Regis!
