At the Park

We saw a nutria at the park today. I saw them in New Orleans, but they must have been transplanted here somehow. Learn more about them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coypu

Wesley smiled at everyone that passed by.  One photographer was walking around taking pictures of things and as she passed, saw Wesley, and asked me if she could take a picture of him… I took a couple of my own…

At the Ranch

OK… no shot of Wesley in this one, sorry, but there is another baby.  Here’s a taste of what is out at Nana and Pap’s ranch.

Martel’s Parent Party

The littlest Martelian…

Squeaky Wesley

Wesley’s First Run

So, Wesley is apparently allowed to run at 6 months old (at least that’s what the B.O.B manual says).  I read online that some folks started at 4 months, or when the baby had good head control.

I wanted to wait past the 4 month period, but couldn’t wait for 6… so on his 5 month birthday… TODAY… we went for a run.  Three miles around Hermann park.  We did quite well.  He got to hold an ice pack while I was exhausted.

They say running with a jogging stroller actually burns LESS calories because you’re holding onto something… supporting your weight.  I did NOT feel like I was being helped at all.

I need to remember when jogging with a stroller…
- keep one hand on it at all times
- stay right behind the stroller, don’t drift to one side or the other
- keep the front wheel locked
- avoid the bumps between entrances 8 and 9 :)

Martel Senior Dinner

Lunch

Wesley does a great job at restaurants… except he’s been reaching for the glasses and trying to drink.  He’s never been given anything to drink, so this is completely an observed behavior.  I wonder what else I’m doing that he’s picking up just by watching?!

Here’s a shot of mommy smiling for the camera and Wesley eyeing her glass of tea.

Rice IT Picnic

What a great day for a picnic.

Though… it was a little tiring going around and meeting everyone…

Rice U Baseball Game

Take me out to the ballgame!

Wesley’s first baseball game with dad!

Rice University had a staff appreciation day at the ballgame.  Wesley and I were able to sit out past the homerun fence on the grass and take in a few innings before bedtime.

Though he didn’t know what was going on, I had fun with him… and I got to show him off to a bunch of coworkers.

Our Nursery in the Houston Chronicle

Apparently we’re very green.  Solid wood crib, bamboo wood floors, air purifier, organic mattress and sheets, cloth diapers, natural skin products, organic pacifier… I guess we do make decisions based on our desire to be as natural as possible.  Anyway, the Houston Chronicle ran a story today on Sheneq, our baby planner, and used us as the Go Green example: http://www.chron.com/default/article/A-green-haven-for-baby-3495540.php

The picture above actually ran in the Chronicle’s Sunday Paper… the rest of these pictures were online with captions.  What’s up with Wesley’s legs in that picture.  Couldn’t they have at least straitened him out?  (Notice his shirt says “Go Green”).
